We conducted a High Performance Team development program for the Singapore office of one of the top-five global advertising firms. Their challenges were formidable: the team ranked in the lower quartile in both customer and employee satisfaction. The team was fragmented, and demonstrated palpable conflict.
Interestingly, there were several star players on the team who were very effective at what they did. Unfortunately for them, the perception of the team as one of the worst on the globe tugged at their collective self-esteem. Those star players carried the stigma of being on a ‘low-TQ team.’
Within 18 months of committing to move from a dysfunctional to a High Performance Team, things began to turn around. The unit transformed from being in the bottom quartile to the top quartile in company, customer, and employee satisfaction. The dysfunctional team became a star team. And what happened to those star performers? They were finally recognized and promoted to other units in the agency!
